Due to the expected inclement weather, we will be cancelling our Art & History of Letter Writing Workshop! Stay safe and we'll let you know when we reschedule!
Before there were texts and e-mails, telephones and video chats, there was the simple letter. Simple, but often quite beautiful not only in their language, but in their stylistic handwriting. There is a history and art behind the writing of a letter, and this 2-hour workshop explores some of its history and gives attendees a chance to pen their own letter!
The workshop will examine some of the letters from the collections of the Historical Society of Montgomery County and other examples of early handwritten texts. We’ll also give attendees a chance to try their own hand at creating the penmanship styles and language that would have been used in America throughout the 18th and 19th centuries.
Where: The workshop will be held at 1654 DeKalb Street, Norristown, PA, in the Meeting Room of the Historical Society of Montgomery County.
When: March 21, 2018, 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm
Cost: Cost to attend the workshop is $10.00 for members of the Historical Society of Montgomery County and $15.00 for non-members. Call us at 610-272-0297 for more information or to reserve your spot.
