The Historical Society of Montgomery County has staff members that speak on various topics of interest. Currently, we have three talks available:

Introduction to Genealogy
Rose Brown, the Society's Librarian, offers a brief look at genealogy and how to get yourself started on family history research. This two hour talk offers handouts and a question and answer time. Distilled from years of experience, the information Rose will share gets you started on the right foot.

His Final Assignment: The Joseph F. Cottrell Story
Jeff McGranahan, the Society's Collections Manager, provides a look into the life of a U.S. Army colonel who was captured by the Japanese when Corregidor fell in May of 1942. After years of research, Jeff has compiled a fascinating look a man dedicated to service for his country. Letters and objects from Col. Cottrell's life are housed at the Society.

Montgomery Cemetery: Restoration in Progress
The Historical Society took ownership and responsibility for historic Montgomery Cemetery in the mid 1990's. This talk, given by Jeff McGranahan, Collections Manager, provides a look at the significance of Montgomery Cemetery and an overview of the work that is currently ongoing at the cemetery.

Life and Times of Colonial Women and Children
Executive Director, Karen McCurdy Wolfe, will present an interactive presentation on the experiences of women and children in colonial America. Learn about everyday life of the middle class through reenactment and material culture. Additionally, if your group desires a talk on a particular topic, we are more than willing to work with you to design something that meets your particular needs.
