Even the earliest Montgomery County Schools had some version of sports. Normally, it was students playing with one another outside the schoolhouse. As schools merged and reorganized at the turn of the 20th century, more competetive interscholastic sports emerged. Such sports not only keep students active, but also teach them how to work as a team.

With most schools cancelling their sports during the COVID-19 pandemic, we thought it might be fun to look back on some photos and memorabilia from 20th century high school teams. All of these items are in HSMC's collection.
