Scope and content: This is a collection of papers created by various members of the Shearer family. They include legal papers, bonds, receipt books, estate papers, and others. The family lived in Upper Dublin and Whitemarsh. There is a muster book for the 56th Pennsylvania militia (1801 - 1821) of which Peter Shearer was captain.   William Shearer studied pharmacy at the Philadelphia School of Pharmacy, and one of his notebooks is in the collection. There are also several papers belonging to members of the Rex family
