John Jones Wright was born in Norristown, PA on February 7, 1837. Not much is known about him except that he lived in the area until joining Company D of the 68th Pennsylvania Infantry Regiment in August of 1862 as a private. He served the duration of the war with his unit, fighting in battles such as Fredericksburg, Chancellorsville, and Gettysburg. After the battle at Gettysburg he was reassigned as a clerk at the headquarters for the Army of the Potomac, where he served from July 22, 1864 to May 26, 1865. He was finally discharged in June 1865.
At some point around this time, John married Hannah Cowden and by 1870 they had one son together and resided in Norristown where John worked as a Printer. Sometime between 1870 and 1880, Hannah passed away and John remarried. As of 1900, John and his new wife, Ruth, were living in Bucks County where John owned his own farm and worked as a farmer. He passed away on May 9, 1901. John Jones, Hannah, and Ruth Wright are all buried in Historic Montgomery Cemetery.
