He was born in Norristown in 1826. Sower was a stationer and a bookseller. He operated "F.D. Sower: Stationer and Bookseller" in Norristown. The store also sold musical instruments, cutlery, and garden seeds. His grandfather was David Sower, founder of the Norristown Herald in 1799. Mr. Sower’s store was located on East Main Street starting in 1850. Sower was one of the best known and highly-respected businessmen in Norristown. He died in the Exeter Train Wreck.
