White was also a Civil War veteran. He mustered into Company C of the 51st Pennsylvania Volunteers at the age of 18, on March 3, 1864. He was discharged on disability but the date is not known. White was a self-employed butcher and his business was done at Norristown Borough's Market. White attended the dedication of General Hartranft's statue in Harrisburg on May 12, 1899. He was a passenger aboard the train that was involved in a head on collision with a second train at Exeter, PA. His viewing and funeral were held from his residence at 24 East Spruce Street in Norristown.
